Lap desks donation to South African Medical Expedition (SAME)
The South African Medical Expedition (SAME) is an organization that the Timbavati Foundation has identified to be operating in one of the local communities changing kids’ lives. SAME is an aftercare centre situated at Sigagula Village along the Orpen road where vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned kids are looked after. They are assisted with their homework.
It was a great excitement for Sharley-Anne Beretta to receive the desks. She mentioned that they will make a huge difference in improving their teaching and learning environment.
After visiting the site it was discovered that they are using cardboards for learners to put on their laps for writing. This inspired the Timbavati Foundation staff (Wendy and Lazaro) to decide, without any doubt, to donate about 50 lap desks.
These desks were donated to the Foundation by the Zurich Insurance Company. Half of the desks were donated to Ekurhuleni Centre for Orphans and Vulnerable Children at Tsakane Village in Acornhoek in 2015.
The kids are using the lap desks effectively.
