The collaboration that the Timbavati Foundation has had going on with the SA College for Tourism (SACT) for more than 10 years has now paved way for the recruitment of boys to go and study at the Tracker Academy.
Tracker Academy works in collaboration with S A College for Tourism in Graaf Reinet Eastern Cape). We have recruited and sent more than 25 girls who are interested in hospitality. Most of them ended up in both conservation and hospitality industries: playing their vital roles, some in permanent positions while others serve as interns to gain further experience.
Our mission has been to help boys as well. After identifying the need for trackers in most tourism industries in our area we decided to consider recruiting boys who have an interest in tracking to send them to Tracker Academy.
The Academy agreed to receive two applications from our side which will be included in their shortlist for the interviews. In order for us to send the right candidates’
The interviews were conducted practically in the bush at the Timbavati Foundation.
The candidates had to identify specific spoors of wild animals.
Two of them (Taetso Tsebogo from Maphutaditshaba high and Sanco Nyathi from Mdluli high schools) performed very well and their applications have been sent through to Tracker Academy.
