OUR MISSION
The primary objective of the Timbavati Foundation is to reach underprivileged communities neighbouring the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve with quality environmental education, and skills-development opportunities as well as create sustainable & resilient livelihoods through their programmes.

Our commitment
Since 2010, The Timbavati Foundation has been dedicated to assisting the communities of Bushbuckridge and the surrounding areas, prioritizing areas of greatest need. Our projects have a significant impact on local communities, schools, and vulnerable senior citizens. While we are currently in partnership with 32 senior and 32 junior schools, our unwavering focus remains on eight key schools situated in close proximity to the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.

Our history
From its modest origins, our journey commenced in 2001 with a humble ‘bush school’ initiative. It was sparked by the vision of a Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (TPNR) landowner and the then-reserve warden, who recognized the importance of educating local children about wildlife conservation and providing them the chance to encounter wildlife in its natural habitat.
A bush camp on the De Villiers family’s farm was transformed to accommodate eight learners and one educator, marking the inception of our transformative project. In 2010 this project was formalized with the Timbavati Foundation being registered as a public benefit organisation.
